Common Collecting Abbreviations
In addition to the letters used to designate a record's grade, it's not uncommon to see other abbreviations used in dealer advertisements. The ones listed here, cover most of the abbreviations found in our notes field. If you see a term that is not listed here, please email us and we will help you.
- boot: bootleg (unauthorized pressing)
- cc: cut corner
- co: cut out
- co notch: elongated notch cut in cover edge to signify a cut out product
- cov: cover
- dh: drill hole (another form of cut out)
- dj: disc jockey (promotional record)
- edg: edge (usually refers to the first inch from the edge, either top or bottom
- gf: gatefold (cover)
- imp: import
- ins: insert (could include pictures, poster, etc)
- lab: or lbl: label
- m: mono
- nap: (does) not affect play
- orig: original
- pro, promo: promotional record
- q: quadraphonic
- re: reissue
- rough edge : means the edge, usually the binding one might be so rough that you can't read the letters or has several tears along it
- rw: ring wear
- s: stereo
- sl: slight
- sm: small
- sm spt: seam split
- soc: sticker on cover
- sol: sticker on label
- soiled: cover is dirty or has heavy spotting
- ss: still sealed
- s/t: self titled
- tpoc: tape on cover
- tpol: tape on label
- tpoe: tape on cover, usually on one of the seams
- w/: with
- wobc: writing on back cover
- woc: writing on cover
- wofc: writing on front cover
- wol: writing on label
- wr: wear
